TL;DR
Distribution System Operator (Electric Distribution): Planning, coordinating, and supervising switching, tagging, load monitoring, and emergency restoration for an electric distribution system with an accent on SCADA/NMS operations, safe clearances, and cross-region coordination. Focus on analyzing distribution-system problems, directing restoration activities, maintaining accurate system records, and operating under emergency conditions.

Location: Windsor, CT; must be available to travel between MA, CT, and NH as necessary and respond to emergency assignments outside normal hours and location.

Starting salary: $53.17/hour, with progression under the union contract.

What you will do

  • Plan, coordinate, and supervise switching, grounding, tagging, and clearance operations.
  • Operate and maintain the Network Management System (NMS), SCADA equipment, and related applications.
  • Monitor circuit and substation loads and voltages to support safe system operation.
  • Analyze trouble calls, initiate corrective actions, and coordinate personnel callouts.
  • Support emergency restoration through Division EOCs and RMTs and direct restoration activities when assigned.
  • Coordinate switching and dispatching with CONVEX, internal teams, external stakeholders, and emergency agencies.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; an associate’s degree in an electrical discipline is preferred.
  • Six years of related experience required; electrical utility experience preferred.
  • Thorough knowledge of switching and tagging procedures and electric distribution system operations.
  • Ability to analyze electric distribution system problems, communicate accurate restoration information, and maintain operational records.
  • Ability to perform under emergency stress conditions and participate in required emergency restoration assignments.
  • Successful candidates must pass the System Operator/Power Dispatcher (SO/PD) pre-employment test. Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.
