Principal Electrical Engineer (Switchgear)

Location: Arvada, Colorado, United States; on-site. The role is open to relocation.

Salary: $225,000–$255,000 annually plus bonus. Restricted Stock Units are included in all offers.

What you will do

• Serve as the technical authority for low- and medium-voltage power distribution and switchgear design.
• Define system architecture for modular data centers and power distribution centers, prioritizing reliability and selectivity.
• Lead short-circuit, coordination, arc-flash, and load-flow studies.
• Design and validate protection schemes, including the selection and configuration of protective relays such as SEL and ABB.
• Conduct detailed design reviews and act as the final quality gate before fabrication.
• Develop electrical standards and mentor Staff and Senior Electrical Engineers while partnering with Manufacturing and Product Management.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering; a master’s degree focused on Power Systems and an active Professional Engineer license are strongly preferred.
• 10–15+ years of progressive electrical engineering experience focused on switchgear design and modular infrastructure.
• Deep knowledge of switchgear construction, bus bracing, thermal management, and insulation requirements for low- and medium-voltage equipment.
• Expertise in power protection theory, symmetrical components, relay coordination, fault current, and arc-flash mitigation.
• Ability to lead technical teams, solve complex engineering problems from first principles, and communicate electrical concepts to non-technical stakeholders, executives, and customers.
• Safety-sensitive position and/or facility; participation in a drug and alcohol program is required.

Nice to have

• Experience representing organizations on IEEE, NFPA, or UL technical committees.
• Experience with EPlan or AutoCAD Electrical for schematic integration.
• Experience integrating PLC and SCADA systems for power automation.
