TL;DR
Technology & Low Voltage Systems Designer (Low Voltage Systems): Designing and documenting structured cabling, network, audiovisual, security, fire alarm, and emergency communication systems for K–12 and specialized commercial projects with an accent on code compliance, scalable infrastructure, and interdisciplinary coordination. Focus on preparing AutoCAD/Revit construction documents, coordinating with architects and engineers, and performing construction administration through submittal reviews, RFIs, site observations, and punch lists.

Location: Hybrid in Vista, California, USA; travel up to 25% based on project demands.

Salary: $75,000–$100,000 per year.

What you will do

  • Design and document low voltage systems for K–12 educational and specialized commercial or corporate projects.
  • Develop structured cabling, LAN/WAN, wireless, audiovisual, security, fire alarm, clock, bell, and emergency communication system designs.
  • Prepare construction documents, system layouts, riser diagrams, and technical specifications using AutoCAD and/or Revit.
  • Coordinate designs with architects, MEP engineers, school districts, contractors, and other consultants.
  • Participate in OAC meetings and client presentations.
  • Perform construction administration, including submittal reviews, RFIs, site observations, and punch lists.

Requirements

  • 3–10+ years of experience designing low voltage systems, including K–12 or similar institutional projects.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD; Revit/BIM experience is preferred.
  • Strong understanding of structured copper and fiber optic cabling, network infrastructure, and legacy analog and digital IP systems.
  • Familiarity with audiovisual, security, life safety, and fire alarm systems.
  • Working knowledge of TIA/EIA, NEC, NFPA, ADA, and BICSI standards, as well as state and local agency requirements such as California DSA.
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in Electrical Engineering, Telecommunications, or a related field.

Nice to have

  • RCDD, CTS/CTS-D, NICET, or Professional Engineer certification or license.
  • Experience with E-Rate funding programs and wireless design tools such as Ekahau.
  • Manufacturer certifications from Cisco, Crestron, Extron, or similar providers.
