Technology & Low Voltage Systems Designer (Low Voltage)

Location: Hybrid, Vista, CA, USA; travel up to 25% based on project demands.

Base salary: $75,000–$100,000 per year.

What you will do

• Design and document low-voltage systems for K–12 educational facilities and specialized commercial or corporate projects, including structured copper and fiber-optic cabling, LAN/WAN and wireless infrastructure, audiovisual systems, security systems, fire alarm systems, clock and bell systems, and emergency communications.
• Prepare construction documents, system layouts, riser diagrams, and technical project specifications using AutoCAD and/or Revit.
• Coordinate designs with architects, MEP engineers, other consultants, school districts, contractors, and clients.
• Participate in OAC meetings and client presentations.
• Perform construction administration, including submittal reviews, RFIs, site observations, and punch lists.
• Ensure compliance with TIA/EIA, NEC, NFPA, ADA, BICSI, and applicable state and local agency requirements, including California DSA requirements for educational facilities.

Requirements

• 3–10+ years of experience in low-voltage systems design, including K–12 or similar institutional projects.
• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field, or equivalent experience.
• Proficiency in AutoCAD.
• Strong understanding of structured cabling and network design, including legacy analog and digital IP systems.
• Familiarity with audiovisual, security, and life-safety systems.
• Working knowledge of TIA/EIA, NEC, NFPA, and BICSI standards.
• Strong coordination and interdisciplinary collaboration skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines.
• Excellent written and verbal communication, attention to detail, commitment to quality, problem-solving, critical thinking, adaptability, and initiative.

Nice to have

• Revit or BIM experience.
• RCDD/BICSI, CTS or CTS-D/AVIXA, NICET, or Professional Engineer certification or license.
• Experience with E-Rate funding programs.
• Wireless design experience using Ekahau or similar tools.
• Manufacturer certifications such as Cisco, Crestron, or Extron.
