Scientific Writer/Editor (Medical)

Location: Nationwide remote within the United States; Fairfax, Virginia is listed as the location.

Salary: $61,232–$104,094 annually, based on full-time employment; the role is part-time.

What you will do

• Research, write, edit, and update evidence-based medical and scientific content for web and print.
• Translate complex health information into clear, accessible plain-language content for public and professional audiences.
• Develop and edit fact sheets, educational materials, meeting summaries, and synthesis documents.
• Apply federal plain-language, health-literacy, accessibility, SEO, and web-writing standards.
• Collaborate with subject matter experts and stakeholders while supporting recurring content review cycles.
• Perform quality-control reviews for accuracy and consistency and support CMS content updates.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field; a master’s degree is preferred.
• At least three years of experience writing and editing medical or scientific content.
• Experience writing for public and/or professional audiences.
• Strong understanding of plain language and health-literacy principles.
• Excellent writing, editing, proofreading, and scientific synthesis skills.
• Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines.

Nice to have

• Experience supporting federal health agencies.
• Familiarity with biomedical or integrative health topics.
• Experience developing content for multiple audience types and using CMS platforms.
• Bilingual capabilities, such as Spanish.
• Experience working with multidisciplinary teams.
