TL;DR
Data Scientist II, Outcomes Research (R/SQL/HEOR): Leading and executing healthcare outcomes research and real-world evidence studies using large-scale healthcare datasets with an accent on pharmacoepidemiologic methods, causal inference, and health economic analysis. Focus on designing observational studies, building reusable analytical infrastructure, translating complex findings into clinically actionable insights, and assessing study limitations.

Location: Chicago, United States

Salary: $90,000–$135,000 for Chicago; $100,000–$150,000 for NYC/SF. Compensation may vary by location, qualifications, and experience.

What you will do

  • Lead and execute HEOR and real-world evidence projects covering outcomes, treatment patterns, and healthcare resource utilization.
  • Collaborate with pharmaceutical, biotech, academic, scientific, engineering, and product development stakeholders.
  • Design, analyze, interpret, and support publication of real-world studies.
  • Select and adapt epidemiologic and health economic methodologies for complex problems, including causal inference approaches.
  • Build reusable analytical code, templates, and workflows to improve the speed and quality of engagements.
  • Follow applicable regulations, data governance requirements, and procedures for real-world data use and reporting.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree with at least 2 years of experience, or equivalent, in data science, bioinformatics, biostatistics, epidemiology, immunology, public health, or a related quantitative field.
  • Computational experience with R and SQL applied to large-scale healthcare datasets.
  • Strong data manipulation and analytical skills for observational and real-world data.
  • Experience with HEOR and RWE methodologies, including propensity score matching, weighting, and inverse probability of treatment weighting.
  • Experience analyzing complex healthcare datasets such as administrative claims, electronic health records, or clinico-genomic databases.
  • Ability to communicate complex methodologies, findings, inferences, and study limitations to non-technical stakeholders.

Nice to have

  • Experience with time-to-event and survival analysis, oncology, cancer genetics, immunology, or molecular biology.
  • Experience with Git, software testing, or validation processes.
  • Experience supporting Phase II–IV oncology clinical trials or HEOR studies using claims, EHR, or registry data.
  • Experience contributing to FDA or other health authority regulatory submissions.
  • Client-facing, consulting, model-building, or model-validation experience.
