Applied Scientist II (Healthcare AI)

Location: New York City office, Financial District; required onsite attendance three days per week on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday.

Salary: $158,000–$190,000 annual base compensation, plus equity incentive and benefits.

What you will do

• Ship production algorithmic systems end-to-end, from problem framing and objective definition through launch and iteration.
• Translate complex healthcare and business constraints into measurable objectives, tradeoffs, and decision frameworks.
• Define evaluation metrics, validate solutions before launch, and improve systems against real-world outcomes.
• Select and combine machine learning, optimization, heuristics, expert systems, and rules according to each problem.
• Build provider tiering optimization, an LLM-based primary care experience, and member engagement models using claims and behavioral data.
• Produce rigorous analyses, review peer code, communicate findings to senior stakeholders, and deepen understanding of the healthcare economy.

Requirements

• 2+ years of industry experience as an Applied Scientist, Machine Learning Engineer, Research Scientist, or equivalent advanced degree.
• Strong applied problem-solving skills, including defining meaningful metrics and delivering solutions that improve them.
• Strong command of relevant methods and the data required by models.
• Sound judgment in selecting statistical models, heuristics, optimization approaches, and simpler algorithmic methods.
• Strong communication skills and the ability to present work clearly to senior stakeholders.
• Ability and willingness to work in the New York City office three days per week.

Nice to have

• Experience with Python, SQL, AWS, Snowflake, pandas, XGBoost, PyTorch, HuggingFace, modern LLM tooling, or evaluation frameworks.
