Senior Wireless Software Engineer (MAC Data Plane)

Location: Greater Seattle Area, United States. Applicants must be U.S. citizens or nationals, U.S. permanent residents, or lawfully admitted refugees or asylees.

Base pay: $248,830.00–$348,361.65 per year for California and Washington applicants; other site ranges may differ.

hirify.global develops reusable space vehicles and systems and is building TeraWave, a satellite communications network using interconnected LEO and MEO satellites.

What you will do

• Design and implement real-time MAC data-plane software for point-to-point and point-to-multipoint satellite links.
• Translate scheduling and resource-allocation decisions into timed modem and PHY transmissions and receptions.
• Build packet-processing pipelines covering queues, buffers, flow control, prioritization, congestion handling, retransmission, and packet delivery.
• Integrate data-plane software with PHY implementations, modem firmware, FPGAs, DMA engines, network interfaces, and custom SoCs.
• Optimize packet processing with zero-copy buffers, scatter-gather I/O, batching, lock-free queues, and hardware offload.
• Diagnose timing, synchronization, performance, and integration issues and deliver capabilities from prototyping through operational deployment.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science, computer engineering, electrical engineering, or a related technical field.
• At least seven years of software development experience in wireless, embedded, communications, or high-performance packet processing.
• Advanced C or C++ proficiency with concurrent, timing-sensitive software in Linux, real-time Linux, or RTOS environments.
• Experience developing high-throughput or low-latency data paths, communications protocols, device interfaces, or packet-processing systems.
• Experience integrating and debugging software with embedded hardware, network devices, modems, FPGAs, or communications-system components.
• Must meet U.S. export-control employment eligibility requirements.

Nice to have

• MAC or link-layer data-plane experience in satellite, cellular, fixed wireless, cable, Wi-Fi, or similar communications systems.
• Knowledge of TDMA, DAMA, OFDMA, framing, segmentation and reassembly, ARQ or HARQ, QoS scheduling, and radio-link operation.
• Experience with DPDK, VPP, AF_XDP, io_uring, shared memory, lock-free data structures, precision timing, or hardware-in-the-loop testing.
