TL;DR
Principal Flight Software Engineer (Spacecraft): Developing and verifying mission-critical flight software for high-power spacecraft with an accent on real-time control, fault tolerance, and subsystem integration. Focus on designing spacecraft software architecture, implementing robust state machines, and validating propulsion, attitude control, thermal, power, and communications systems through software- and hardware-in-the-loop testing.

Location: Seattle, Washington, United States

Base salary: $200,000–$240,000 per year, plus equity.

What you will do

  • Create software architecture for real-time, fault-tolerant control of spacecraft exceeding 20 kW.
  • Develop flight software for propulsion, guidance and attitude control, thermal, power, and communications subsystems.
  • Design and implement state machines for robust spacecraft operation.
  • Build tools and infrastructure that support rapid deployment, reliable development, and software testing.
  • Analyze data and investigate anomalies to identify and resolve software defects.
  • Support spacecraft subsystem integration and testing, including software- and hardware-in-the-loop verification.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, computer engineering, electrical engineering, mathematics, or another STEM discipline, or 10+ years of professional software engineering experience.
  • Development experience with Rust, C/C++, Python, VHDL, and SystemVerilog.
  • Eligibility to access ITAR-controlled information as a U.S. person or through an applicable federally issued export control license.
  • Experience developing reliable software for mission-critical or embedded systems is relevant to the role.

Nice to have

  • Spacecraft flight software, Linux systems programming, driver development, or hard real-time embedded systems experience.
  • Experience with CI/CD, state machines, software verification, testing, and performance analysis.
  • Knowledge of electronics, computer architecture, control systems, and Extended Kalman Filters for inertial sensors.
  • Experience with fault-tolerant software design and hardware-in-the-loop or hardware-out-of-the-loop test systems.
