TL;DR
Principal Equipment Engineer (Semiconductor Manufacturing): Owning back-end production equipment across specification, qualification, sustaining, and reliability in a high-volume manufacturing environment with an accent on electro-mechanical systems, tool availability, and safety compliance. Focus on diagnosing complex failures, improving OEE/MTBF/MTTR, qualifying and transferring equipment, and establishing engineering controls for lasers, chemicals, and high-temperature systems.

What you will do

  • Own an assigned portfolio of back-end process tools, including laser, cleaning, thermal, metrology, and material-handling equipment.
  • Diagnose complex electro-mechanical failures and lead root-cause analysis using 8D and 5-Why methods.
  • Improve tool availability, capability, total cost of ownership, OEE, MTBF, and MTTR.
  • Author equipment specifications, evaluate vendors, execute FAT/SAT, and manage technical documentation for international site transfers.
  • Establish standards for preventive maintenance, CMMS assets, ECNs, and ISO 9001 compliance.
  • Mentor maintenance technicians and junior equipment engineers through design reviews, troubleshooting, and documentation audits.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Mechatronics, Electrical, or Manufacturing Engineering.
  • 10+ years of hands-on equipment ownership in semiconductor, advanced materials, or high-precision manufacturing.
  • Advanced experience with motion control, PLC/HMI, pneumatics, vacuum, and fluid-delivery systems.
  • Practical experience with LOTO, NFPA 79, CE/UL, SEMI S2, and controls for Class IV lasers, chemical hazards, and high-temperature systems.
  • Proficiency with 3D CAD, including SolidWorks, PLM systems such as Teamcenter, and CMMS frameworks.
  • Ability to work autonomously, manage competing priorities, and align cross-functional teams without direct authority.

Nice to have

  • Experience with Class IV lasers, CMP/polishing, or robotic work cells.
  • Experience using Python, JMP, or SQL for equipment and performance analysis.
