Senior Medical Science Liaison, External Research (Oncology)

Location: Remote in the United States, including Illinois or Chicago; field-based US locations may also be considered. Travel up to 50%.

Salary: $120,000–$190,000 annually; the stated range applies to California and may vary for Colorado, Illinois, and New York.

What you will do

• Support strategic account managers with research discussions and intake of external study concepts.
• Engage oncology KOLs and academic investigators in investigator-initiated trials, assay grants, pharmaceutical and cooperative group trials, and retrospective real-world data studies.
• Assess study proposals for completeness, feasibility, clinical and scientific merit, and strategic value.
• Coordinate study communications between academic investigators, data scientists, and internal stakeholders, including analysis and results review.
• Support abstracts, scientific presentations, manuscripts, medical advisory boards, and publication planning.
• Develop medical research strategies, scientific exchange plans, conference summaries, and market intelligence updates.

Requirements

• Advanced scientific or medical degree such as PhD, PharmD, MD, MSN, BSN, or BS.
• 2+ years of Medical Science Liaison or Medical Affairs experience in diagnostics, biotech, or pharmaceuticals.
• Advanced knowledge of molecular oncology, biomarkers, genomic laboratory-developed testing, and clinical diagnostic platforms is required.
• Experience in medical writing for abstracts, scientific presentations, and manuscripts.
• Ability to manage 25–30 study collaborations across different execution phases and work effectively with KOLs, academic researchers, sales, and business account managers.
• Working knowledge of statistical methods, clinical trial design, CLIA-88, CAP, and the Sunshine Act is preferred; ability to travel up to 50% is required.
