Software Engineer (Java/Kotlin)

Location: Remote work is available in countries where Cash App operates; compensation is organized by U.S. location zones for U.S. roles.

Salary: $120,700–$181,100 USD in Zone D, $127,800–$191,600 USD in Zone C, $134,900–$202,300 USD in Zone B, or $142,000–$213,000 USD in Zone A per year.

What you will do

• Design, develop, test, ship, and maintain features across card issuance, transaction processing, and disputes.
• Build services within microservice and event-driven architectures using high-quality, well-tested code.
• Own features end to end, from design and implementation through launch and operation.
• Participate in design reviews, code reviews, technical discussions, and knowledge sharing.
• Operate tier-0 financial systems through on-call participation, incident response, and postmortems.
• Use AI-powered developer tools responsibly to improve development velocity and quality.

Requirements

• 3+ years of software development experience or equivalent experience.
• Experience building and maintaining production systems and delivering features through design, build, testing, launch, and operation.
• Experience with Java or Kotlin and production software engineering practices.
• Knowledge of AWS, HTTP, JSON, gRPC, Protocol Buffers, databases, Kafka, microservices, and event-driven architecture.
• Demonstrated AI fluency, including use and critical evaluation of AI-powered developer tools.
• Bachelor’s degree or diploma in computer science, computer engineering, software engineering, or equivalent experience.

Nice to have

• Experience with Hibernate, Aurora, MySQL, DynamoDB, Redis, Datadog, Buildkite, or Gradle.
• Experience with AI agents and tooling such as Goose, Claude, or MCP.
