R&D Hardware Test & Development Manager (Fusion Energy)

Salary: $162,000–$192,000 per year

What you will do

• Manage a multidisciplinary team of R&D engineers supporting technology development, testing, and delivery.
• Oversee the design and execution of test and development initiatives, allocating engineering ownership and resources.
• Drive rapid, rigorous testing to close and validate engineering designs and advance next-generation technologies.
• Partner with Engineering, Production, Radiation and Nuclear Safety, and Science organizations on cross-functional initiatives.
• Present team initiatives to senior leaders, secure stakeholder alignment, and support engineers’ career growth.
• Identify resource constraints and grow the team through targeted hiring and development.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Physics or Engineering with 8+ years of relevant experience, or a master’s degree with 4+ years of relevant experience.
• At least 2 years of experience managing engineers involved in technology testing and development.
• Experience applying first-principles thinking, conducting root cause failure analysis, and solving complex technical problems.
• Proven record of delivering technology testing and development results through rapid iterative testing.
• Excellent communication and cross-functional collaboration skills.
• Ability to strategically plan resources and scale an engineering team for future needs.

Nice to have

• Technical expertise in vacuum systems, pressurized systems, high-voltage systems, or pulsed-power technologies.
