TL;DR
Engineering Manager, Frontend (TypeScript): Leading the frontend team building the Mission Command platform for satellite constellation management, contact scheduling, and mission operations with an accent on reliability, performance, accessibility, and scalable web architecture. Focus on growing the engineering organization, defining technical roadmaps, and solving complex product and operational challenges across mission-critical systems.

Location: Hybrid in San Jose, California, with on-site work required three days per week.

Salary: $210,000–$234,000 per year, plus equity and comprehensive benefits.

What you will do

  • Lead, mentor, hire, and grow the Frontend engineering team, including performance management and team composition.
  • Define team goals, technical roadmaps, priorities, and execution plans aligned with company objectives.
  • Ensure reliable, performant, accessible experiences for satellite operators, customers, and internal users.
  • Translate mission needs into clear requirements and technical specifications with engineering, product, design, and other stakeholders.
  • Drive design reviews, code quality, testing, observability, and other engineering best practices.
  • Build product feedback loops, clarify ownership boundaries, and promote technical ownership and continuous improvement.

Requirements

  • BS/MS in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent industry experience.
  • 5+ years of software engineering experience and 3+ years managing software engineering teams operating production systems.
  • Direct experience managing frontend, web, or product engineering teams, including hiring, coaching, performance management, and team development.
  • Strong frontend/web development background with hands-on experience in strongly typed languages such as TypeScript or Flow and modern web application architecture.
  • Experience building and supporting complex production web applications with reliability, performance, and accessibility requirements.
  • Experience with CI/CD, static analysis, code revision management, technical direction, roadmap ownership, prioritization, and stakeholder alignment.

Nice to have

  • Experience with SSR, React Server Components, and isomorphic code.
  • Experience with 3D applications, interactive mapping, or geospatial data visualization.
  • Experience with accessibility-focused component libraries and frontend observability tools.
  • Experience scaling frontend or product engineering teams and working with large cross-team monorepos.
  • Familiarity with aerospace, satellite operations, or other high-reliability and mission-critical domains.
