Histology Assistant

Location: Chicago, Illinois, United States; onsite laboratory work

Salary: $23.00 per hour in Illinois. Pay may vary for roles performed in California, Colorado, or New York.

What you will do

• Maintain laboratory equipment and record maintenance activities.
• Perform routine histology workflows independently and produce quality finished products.
• Operate automated stainers, coverslippers, and tissue processors.
• Track completed work in a custom Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS).
• Collaborate with laboratory staff to meet sample turnaround times.
• Maintain laboratory areas, follow safety procedures, and restock workspaces.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED.
• Knowledge of CAP regulations and experience with laboratory SOPs and protocols.
• Comfort with laboratory safety requirements and training.
• Problem-solving, communication, and organizational skills.
• Responsibilities include exposure to xylene; exposure is monitored within recommended guidelines, and individuals with respiratory conditions may require additional PPE.
