Distinguished Software Engineer, Data Platform

Location: Milpitas, California, United States; hybrid

Salary: $300,000–$320,000 annually, plus potential discretionary bonus

What you will do

• Own the architectural vision and multi-year roadmap for a governed, multi-tenant data platform.
• Design real-time replication and streaming infrastructure to move data from legacy per-tenant systems with minimal latency.
• Define layered ingestion, transformation, storage, and governed serving architectures for transactional and analytical workloads.
• Build unified synchronous and asynchronous data access with authorization, tenant isolation, auditability, and self-service integration.
• Extend the platform for operational, analytical, machine-learning, and generative-AI applications.
• Set organization-wide technical direction, advise executive and security stakeholders, and mentor senior and principal engineers.

Requirements

• Deep hands-on expertise with distributed database engines supporting mixed transactional and analytical workloads at scale.
• Experience architecting real-time data replication and streaming pipelines, including schema evolution, delivery guarantees, and multi-consumer fan-out.
• Strong background in multi-tenant SaaS data architecture, tenant isolation, per-tenant routing, and governed self-service data access.
• Experience modernizing large-scale search, logging, or observability infrastructure and optimizing costs at scale.
• Experience conducting benchmark-backed build-versus-buy evaluations and presenting recommendations to executive and security stakeholders.
• Ability to work across multiple cloud providers and connect platform decisions to cost and compliance outcomes.
