Medical Insurance Specialist (Healthcare)

Location: Remote, Monday to Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM EST

What you will do

• Manage insurance referrals and prior authorizations for procedures, medications, and imaging requests.
• Navigate insurance company portals to submit, monitor, and follow up on requests.
• Handle appeals for denied referrals, procedures, medications, and MRI requests.
• Communicate approval, denial, and next-step updates to patients and medical office staff.
• Maintain accurate records in tracking spreadsheets and the Athena tracker.
• Protect confidential patient and insurance information while managing multiple deadlines independently.

Requirements

• Previous experience in medical insurance, prior authorizations, referrals, or healthcare administration.
• Experience navigating insurance company portals and familiarity with authorization and appeals processes.
• Strong organization, follow-up, written and verbal communication, and attention to detail.
• Ability to manage multiple requests and deadlines independently.
• Comfort communicating with insurance carriers, patients, and medical office staff.
• Availability for Monday to Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM EST.
