New Glenn - Principal Software Engineer (Aerospace)

Base pay for Washington applicants: $230,773–$323,081.85 per year

Aerospace organization developing reusable, safe, and low-cost space vehicles and systems, including the New Glenn heavy-lift orbital launch vehicle.

What you will do

• Lead technical strategy and vision across design, testing, systems engineering, and flight operations.
• Own the technical roadmap for software applications used to design, produce, and operate New Glenn launch vehicles.
• Architect and deliver distributed systems using AWS, Java, React, GraphQL, REST APIs, DynamoDB, RDS, SQS, SNS, and Databricks.
• Identify and implement AI applications that improve user experience and software development efficiency.
• Promote CI/CD, modular architectures, comprehensive testing, monitoring, high availability, and operational excellence.
• Present strategies to senior leadership, lead technical design reviews, and mentor software developers through the Senior SDE level.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related discipline.
• 10+ years of experience writing and deploying production software, including 7+ years developing distributed backend systems and using cloud services such as AWS.
• Extensive experience with typed and untyped languages, including examples such as Java, C++, C#, Python, and JavaScript.
• Strong computer science fundamentals, independent problem-solving ability, and experience resolving complex problems in unfamiliar domains.
• Experience presenting to senior leadership at or above the Vice President level and mentoring software engineers.
• Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident, refugee, or asylee admitted to the United States.

Nice to have

• 15+ years of experience writing and deploying production software.
• Experience in manufacturing, supply chain, or aerospace.
