Senior Process Control Engineer (Fusion Energy)

Location: On-site in Everett, Washington; commissioning may also take place at the fusion power plant in Malaga, Washington.

Salary: $182K–$214K annually

hirify.global is a fusion power company developing the Polaris prototype and Orion, with the goal of building a commercial fusion power plant.

What you will do

• Develop and own the control philosophy, control architecture, and automation strategy for Orion fuel cycle systems.
• Translate mission requirements into control system architectures, instrumentation strategies, automation requirements, HMI, alarming, and operational data system specifications.
• Lead vendor evaluation and technical execution through delivery, integration, commissioning, and operation of fuel cycle control systems.
• Define system interfaces and develop interface control documents with the Plant Controls Team and external vendors.
• Standardize control narratives, instrument datasheets, I/O lists, loop diagrams, and cause-and-effect diagrams.
• Lead remote and on-site commissioning of fuel cycle control systems.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Control Systems Engineering, or a related discipline.
• 8+ years of experience developing and deploying industrial process control systems in complex process industries.
• Experience supporting control systems across design, implementation, commissioning, and operations.
• Expertise in process controls engineering, instrumentation selection, and automation system architecture.
• Experience addressing cybersecurity, reliability, maintainability, and process safety requirements, including LOPA, SIS, and SIF/SIL lifecycle activities.
• Ability to navigate ambiguity, learn new technical domains, and drive cross-functional decisions independently.

Nice to have

• Experience with first-of-a-kind facilities, pilot plants, advanced energy systems, nuclear technologies, gas processing, semiconductor manufacturing, or specialty chemical processes.
• Experience with gas handling, separation, vacuum, cryogenic operations, or other processes with complex dynamics and specialized instrumentation.
• Familiarity with ISA/IEC 62443, IEC 61511, NERC, and WECC frameworks.
• Experience with industrial control platforms such as Emerson DeltaV, Honeywell Experion, Yokogawa CENTUM, or Siemens PCS7.
