AI Systems Engineer (AI)

Location: On-site in San Jose, California. Relocation support is available for candidates moving to San Jose.

Salary: $150,000–$225,000 per year, plus equity.

What you will do

• Build systems that convert new model architectures into verified, production-ready kernels and model mappings.
• Develop agents that understand hardware, design experiments, generate implementations, profile results, diagnose bottlenecks, and iterate on solutions.
• Design evaluations for correctness, numerical stability, latency, and efficiency.
• Convert profiler traces, simulations, hardware counters, and expert judgment into structured learning signals.
• Curate proprietary datasets and optimization memory, while building reproducible experiment infrastructure and observability.
• Ship model-generated improvements to production and collaborate with architecture teams on the hardware-software roadmap.

Requirements

• Experience solving difficult problems across different technical stacks and domains.
• Strong working knowledge of Python and low-level code, including reading, modifying, debugging, and directing AI-assisted implementation.
• Experience writing or tuning kernels and explaining the performance impact of optimizations.
• Ability to use agentic coding tools, deep research, and frontier models to learn and solve new problems.
• Ability to move between research exploration, agentic experimentation, low-level debugging, and production execution.

Nice to have

• Knowledge of accelerator performance, including memory hierarchy, data movement, parallelism, synchronization, and low-precision computation.
• Experience building and shipping production LLM-based agents or AI tooling.
• Experience with evaluation-driven AI development, fine-tuning, post-training, RAG over proprietary data, or multi-agent orchestration.
• High agency and comfort working through ambiguity.
