Agent Research Engineer (AI)

Location: On-site at the office in San Francisco or Westwood, Los Angeles

Salary: $160K–$320K base salary, plus equity and bonus

What you will do

• Lead research into AI agents, focusing on memory, reliability, and reasoning.
• Prototype and evaluate novel state-of-the-art methods and models.
• Advance general learning agents in collaboration with the technical founder and engineering team.
• Apply architecture, coding, and communication skills across the technology stack.

Requirements

• Deep expertise in systems engineering across the technology stack.
• Strong background in machine learning theory and practice.
• Broad knowledge of neural architectures and circuits, including transformers.
• Experience with Python, LLMs, ANNs, and C++/CUDA.
• Published research at top AI conferences.

Hiring process

• 30-minute virtual discussion covering Vast, systems, and architectures.
• One-hour virtual LLM-assisted coding assessment, followed by a two-hour onsite meeting with the coding assessment team.
