Applied AI Engineer

Location: New York City, hybrid; typically in-office 3–4 days per week

Salary: $190,000–$250,000 per year for Senior Engineer or $240,000–$280,000 per year for Staff Engineer, plus equity

What you will do

• Design, build, and iterate on enterprise-grade AI agents for high-stakes legal workflows.
• Build and integrate LLM-backed workflows covering prompt systems, retrieval, memory, evaluation, and feedback loops.
• Develop AI workflows and production functionality in collaboration with software engineering, legal engineering, and product teams.
• Oversee data collection, experimentation, and analysis with legal domain experts.
• Build benchmarks and evaluation suites to measure and improve AI agent performance.
• Engineer context structures, prompt optimization pipelines, memory, feedback, and client-specific preferences.

Requirements

• 4+ years of experience as a software engineer, applied AI engineer, ML engineer, or data scientist.
• Strong Python programming skills and proficiency with Docker, Postgres, and Redis.
• Experience operating production systems, including debugging, monitoring, and iteration on live software.
• Experience with AI/ML infrastructure and integrating LLM, classical ML, or hybrid components into real-world systems.
• Willingness to work with TypeScript and React to productize research-driven initiatives.
• Strong reading, writing, quantitative, and data-driven problem-solving skills, with willingness to develop legal and compliance expertise.

Nice to have

• Familiarity with current AI research and traditional ML systems applied to state-of-the-art LLMs.
• Experience extracting insights from PDFs and other unstructured or semi-structured data.
• Experience with context engineering, AI agent memory, and uncertainty modeling in ML systems.
