Manufacturing Operations Manager (Hardware Prototyping)

What you will do

• Own end-to-end setup of prototyping division including space planning, equipment procurement, facility improvements, and commissioning
• Hire, lead, and develop machinists, fabricators, and assembly technicians
• Manage day-to-day operations ensuring same-day or next-day prototype part turnaround
• Build operational systems for work intake, scheduling, inventory, and preventive maintenance
• Manage division budget and vendor relationships
• Establish quality infrastructure including inspection and calibration programs
• Collaborate with mechanical, electrical, and thermal engineering teams for manufacturability feedback and schedule alignment

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in engineering or 4+ years relevant manufacturing/prototype experience
• 3+ years experience in manufacturing, machine shop, or hardware prototyping operations
• 2+ years experience leading technicians or manufacturing teams
• Hands-on experience with CNC machining and/or sheet metal fabrication
• Experience with machine shop setup, equipment selection, and permits preferred
• Knowledge of manufacturing processes including CNC milling, waterjet cutting, welding, and PCBA/SMT NPI processes is a plus
• Familiarity with California manufacturing compliance programs preferred
• Experience in high-growth startup or program-driven environments advantageous
