Counsel, Product & Regulatory – Payments & AML (Fintech)

Location: Remote within Canada or the United States

Salary: $186,400–$209,700 for U.S. employees in New York City, Los Angeles, Seattle, or the San Francisco Bay Area; $167,800–$188,700 for other U.S. locations; CAD $176,100–$198,200 for Canadian employees.

What you will do

• Advise on payments products, payment rails, product launches, operational incidents, partner relationships, and customer-facing experiences.
• Partner with Product, Compliance, Risk, Engineering, Operations, Partnerships, and Legal teams from early product ideation through launch.
• Support new payment capabilities, including initiatives such as Zelle, by identifying risks, evaluating options, and guiding decisions in ambiguous environments.
• Advise AML Advisory, Sanctions, Compliance, and Risk teams on financial crimes compliance and emerging initiatives.
• Build scalable legal frameworks and guidance that improve consistency and reduce operational friction.
• Use AI tools in legal workflows and adapt to evolving payment rails, regulations, and business priorities.

Requirements

• 4+ years of legal experience.
• Active license to practice law in at least one U.S. jurisdiction.
• Experience advising fintechs, banks, payment companies, sponsor-bank programs, payment networks, BaaS providers, or regulators on payments or AML matters.
• Strong knowledge of payments-related regulatory frameworks, BSA/AML, and sanctions requirements.
• Strong communication, judgment, ownership, curiosity, and comfort working in ambiguous environments.
• Working knowledge of AI use cases in legal roles or financial services.

Nice to have

• Interest or experience in emerging areas such as stablecoins.
