Sr Staff Software Engineer (AI Infrastructure)

Location: San Francisco, CA, United States; on-site

Compensation: $245,000–$295,000 annually, plus bonus and restricted stock units.

What you will do

• Own platform-wide performance engineering, establish benchmarks, identify systemic bottlenecks, and drive scalable solutions.
• Design and oversee resilient distributed systems with high availability, disaster recovery, graceful degradation, and fault isolation.
• Improve operational excellence by reducing on-call noise, automating recurring work, and creating shared engineering patterns and frameworks.
• Provide senior technical leadership across Control Plane, Storage & State, Edge & Agents, Data Pipeline, and Async & Metering.
• Influence adjacent infrastructure teams, including Compute, Managed Orchestration, and Networking, while collaborating with product and engineering leadership on roadmaps.
• Coach senior engineers and build systems that improve team effectiveness without requiring direct involvement.

Requirements

• Deep hands-on experience designing and operating distributed systems at scale, including sharding, replication, consensus, load balancing, and concurrency.
• Staff-level or higher impact and proficiency in Go or another modern compiled language; Go is strongly preferred.
• Required customer-facing on-call experience, including building runbooks, tuning alerts, and systematically reducing operational noise.
• Ability to influence technical decisions across organizational boundaries and resolve systemic problems spanning multiple teams.
• Experience scoping ambiguous problems with product and engineering leadership, planning incremental delivery, and connecting technical decisions to business outcomes.
• Strong ownership, communication, mentorship, accountability, and solutions-oriented leadership.
