Coatings and Materials Manufacturing Engineer (Robotics)

Salary: $200,000–$248,000 per year based on experience, plus equity

What you will do

• Lead the industrialization and scale-up of advanced coatings, load-bearing fiber systems, elastomers, polymers, and other materials from laboratory and pilot stages to high-volume production.
• Develop, validate, and release repeatable manufacturing processes with defined process windows, operating conditions, quality criteria, and production-readiness requirements.
• Select, source, design, and commission production equipment, tooling, fixtures, material-handling systems, and automation solutions.
• Use capacity modeling, cycle time, labor content, yield, scrap, uptime, and cost data to guide process and equipment decisions.
• Apply DOE, SPC, process-capability analysis, PFMEA, root-cause analysis, and corrective action to improve safety, quality, throughput, yield, and cost.
• Create process specifications, SOPs, work instructions, validation documentation, training materials, production records, and safety documentation.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, Polymer Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.
• At least 3 years of industry experience in materials, chemical, coating, or related manufacturing.
• Strong expertise in chemical engineering, polymer science, or materials engineering, with advanced manufacturing experience in coatings, chemicals, polymers, elastomers, synthetic fibers, or composites.
• Experience developing, validating, and scaling manufacturing processes and transitioning materials from research and development into high-volume production.
• Working knowledge of DOE, SPC, process capability, PFMEA, structured root-cause analysis, corrective action, safety procedures, chemical regulations, and material compliance standards.
• Ability to troubleshoot hands-on on the production floor, manage vendors, commission equipment, and lead cross-functional technical projects.

Nice to have

• Experience manufacturing materials for robotics, aerospace, automotive, medical devices, or other advanced hardware industries.
• Experience with NPI, validation builds, first-article inspections, supplier readiness, contract manufacturing, and production line launches.
• Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, process optimization, automation, or manufacturing yield-improvement experience.
• Experience with batch processes, roll-to-roll or continuous coating, in-line or at-line inspection, sensors, vision systems, and production data collection.
• Familiarity with DFM, PLM, ERP, or MES systems and manufacturing documentation workflows.
