Director/Sr. Director, Operations & Underwriting (Insurance)

Location: Richmond, Virginia, United States. US work authorization is required.

Base salary: $162,800–$223,850/year for the Director level or $188,880–$259,710/year for the Senior Director level, with 55% incentive.

What you will do

• Lead underwriting operations and support functions, improving efficiency, consistency, service delivery, and workflow performance.
• Drive process improvement, automation, simplification, and scalability across underwriting workflows.
• Partner with IT and digital teams to develop underwriting tools, analytics, workflow solutions, automation, and AI-enabled capabilities.
• Work with product line and regional underwriting leaders on portfolio reviews, business planning, risk selection, pricing trends, capacity deployment, and profitability.
• Develop executive reporting, dashboards, operational KPIs, and portfolio insights for data-driven decision-making.
• Coordinate cross-functional initiatives and support change management, technology adoption, and capability development.

Requirements

• 10–15+ years of insurance industry experience across professional liability products.
• Significant experience in underwriting operations, portfolio management, product leadership, or business strategy.
• Deep understanding of underwriting processes, risk management, and portfolio performance metrics.
• Experience leading initiatives involving underwriting, technology, actuarial, claims, finance, and operations.
• Strong analytical, strategic planning, organizational leadership, communication, and executive presentation skills.
• US work authorization is required; visa sponsorship is not available now or in the future.
