TL;DR
Journeyman Linux Systems Administrator (RHEL/VMware/Ansible): Administering and maintaining enterprise Linux infrastructure for U.S. Coast Guard operations with an accent on virtualization, automated patching, configuration management, and DISA STIG compliance. Location: Kearneysville, West Virginia, United States; hybrid schedule

Salary: $80,000–$100,000 annually

What you will do

  • Administer, configure, and maintain Red Hat Enterprise Linux servers across physical and virtual production environments.
  • Perform VMware vSphere operations, including virtual machine provisioning, cloning, resource allocation, and basic host maintenance.
  • Execute automated patch cycles and configuration updates using BMC TrueSight Server Automation and maintain existing Ansible playbooks.
  • Apply security patches, run vulnerability scans, and remediate configurations against DISA STIG requirements.
  • Monitor system performance, triage infrastructure alerts, resolve standard hardware and software incidents, and escalate complex issues.
  • Document operational workflows and baseline changes while participating in an after-hours on-call rotation.

Requirements

  • 6–9 years of experience or equivalent experience, including at least 5 years administering RHEL environments.
  • DoD 8570 IAT Level II or higher certification, such as Security+ CE or CySA+, and a recognized Linux certification such as RHCE or RHCSA.
  • Practical experience with VMware vSphere, including ESXi and vCenter administration.
  • Experience executing, troubleshooting, and editing existing Ansible and YAML scripts.
  • Experience deploying security patches and validating systems against DISA STIG frameworks, with Bash or Python scripting proficiency.
  • Active Secret clearance required.

Nice to have

  • Experience supporting U.S. Coast Guard or Department of Homeland Security operations.
  • Hands-on experience with BMC TrueSight Server Automation.
  • Exposure to OpenShift, Docker, Kubernetes, AWS, or Azure.
