TL;DR
Test & Reliability Engineer (Robotics Hardware) (Robotics/AI): Building testing and quality-control infrastructure for mechanical, electrical, embedded, and sensor systems used in field-deployed robots with an accent on environmental validation, certification, manufacturing quality, and fleet reliability. Focus on validating robotic hardware across harsh environments, analyzing failures and reliability metrics, and maintaining deployed systems across wheeled, quadruped, and humanoid platforms.

Location: Fully onsite at the Irvine, California office

Salary: $100,000–$150,000 per year, plus benefits and equity.

What you will do

  • Build testing and validation infrastructure across mechanical, electrical, embedded, and sensor systems.
  • Conduct thermal, shock, vibration, HALT/HASS, ingress protection, destructive, nondestructive, EMI/EMC, and sensor validation testing.
  • Support FCC, CE, safety, quality, and functional-safety compliance through internal processes and third-party laboratories.
  • Develop incoming and outbound quality controls, sampling/AQL plans, test procedures, equipment logs, and calibration traceability.
  • Monitor fleet health, uptime, calibration status, failure rates, MTBF, and MTTR across deployed robotic platforms.
  • Perform debugging, root-cause and RMA failure analysis, maintenance, component retrofits, and production-readiness evaluations.

Requirements

  • B.S., M.S., or Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Robotics, or a related field.
  • 4+ years of hands-on experience in hardware testing, quality, or reliability engineering.
  • Experience with mechanical and electrical testing, environmental and reliability testing, and third-party test labs.
  • Experience with IQC, OQC, sampling/AQL, and quality processes, preferably in ISO 9001-aligned environments.
  • Ability to evaluate integrated mechanical, electrical, embedded, sensor, thermal, and software systems across robotic platforms.
  • Familiarity with USB, Ethernet, CAN, I2C, and GMSL, as well as oscilloscopes, logs, power monitors, and EMI/FCC analyzers.

Nice to have

  • Experience scaling systems from prototype to large-scale production.
  • Experience with harsh industrial field environments such as construction, energy, and mining.
  • Background with deployed autonomous vehicles, drones, ruggedized robots, or wheeled, quadruped, and humanoid platforms.
  • Experience with ISO 26262, SIL, MTBF/MTTR, fleet monitoring, RMA analysis, and building test or quality functions.
