Software Engineer - Query Language (Java)

Location: Portland, Oregon, USA

Salary: $114,000–$142,000 USD annually, plus eligibility for a corporate bonus plan.

hirify.global develops an observability platform with data ingestion, storage, query, and telemetry database technologies for complex digital systems.

What you will do

• Own and evolve the hirify.global query language and gateway stack.
• Build and maintain scalable distributed Java services and petabyte-scale infrastructure.
• Collaborate with AI, Visualization, and Data Processing teams on query language and gateway development.
• Investigate and resolve performance, availability, and resiliency issues in a multi-region, multi-cloud, multi-tenant database.
• Operate the software using a DevOps approach, including participation in the on-call rotation.

Requirements

• At least 1 year of experience in collaborative software development.
• Strong understanding of computer science fundamentals, including data structures, algorithms, and modern software design.
• Experience with Java or an equivalent object-oriented language such as C++, C#, or another comparable language.
• Ownership mindset and ability to troubleshoot deeply from the command line.
• Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.

Nice to have

• Experience developing and operating within a 24/7 SaaS business.
• Experience or interest in database implementation, distributed systems, or query language grammar, compilation, and execution.
• Experience with observability platforms and public cloud providers such as AWS, Azure, or GCP.
• Experience with Kubernetes and Docker.
• Experience working asynchronously in distributed teams.
