Production Engineer (SDN)

Location: Sunnyvale, California, United States; on-site

Salary: $170,000–$205,000 per year plus bonus

What you will do

• Build automation and self-healing tools for software-defined networking infrastructure across edge, backbone, and data center connectivity.
• Drive reliability initiatives involving routing convergence, traffic engineering, policy enforcement, and fault isolation.
• Implement and operate high-performance virtualized networking services, including overlays, service meshes, and programmable data planes.
• Improve availability, latency, performance, and error-budget compliance for user-facing networking services.
• Investigate and resolve incidents using telemetry, flow logs, and packet-level analysis.
• Design scalable, fault-tolerant SDN backends and optimize network stacks, drivers, and control planes with hardware and kernel teams.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
• 5+ years of professional experience in production engineering, systems engineering, or networking engineering.
• Experience automating network provisioning, configuration, and remediation; manual rack-and-stack work alone is not sufficient.
• Hands-on experience with SDN platforms and protocols such as Open vSwitch, ONOS, Tungsten Fabric, Calico, Cilium, EVPN, and VXLAN.
• Proficiency in Python, Go, or C, plus Infrastructure as Code and deployment tooling such as Terraform, Ansible, or Puppet.
• Deep Linux networking knowledge, familiarity with BGP, OSPF, IS-IS, MPLS, network virtualization, Kubernetes CNI, and managed networking services at scale.
