Engineering Manager (AI)

Location: Remote in Canada or the USA

What you will do

• Co-own the AI engineering team of approximately 30 forward deployed engineers with existing engineering leaders.
• Lead team health, performance reviews, hiring, interviewer calibration, and the technical bar for the team.
• Develop engineers through training sessions, playbooks, checklists, pairing, onboarding paths, mentorship, and internal documentation.
• Review architectures, guide evaluation strategy and instrumentation, and pressure-test technical approaches for client stakeholders.
• Step into engagements as a technical lead, support scoping and pre-sales, and act as a senior escalation point for clients and partners.
• Staff engagements and manage workload across skill, growth, client fit, utilization, and delivery risk.

Requirements

• 10+ years of engineering experience and 3+ years managing senior engineers, including hiring and performance management.
• Experience leading teams of 15 or more engineers across multiple projects or engagements.
• Strong full-stack experience with TypeScript, React, Node, Python, or Go.
• Experience building and shipping production agentic applications with orchestration and tool-calling patterns.
• Experience with evaluation harnesses, testing infrastructure, MLOps or LLMOps, monitoring, guardrails, and human-in-the-loop design.
• Experience with at least one major cloud provider and consulting, agency, or forward deployed engineering work.

• Enterprise experience in financial services, healthcare, or retail.
• Experience scaling forward deployed engineering, solutions engineering, or professional services teams.
• AI enablement or developer productivity program experience.
• Founder, CTO, or early-stage venture-backed startup experience.
• Experience fine-tuning LLMs, Kubernetes, scalable data pipelines, data lakes, certifications, open-source contributions, or technical publications.
