Head of People (AI)

Location: On-site in Seattle, Washington, United States. Work from the company's Seattle offices is expected, with on-site requirements varying by position and team.

Base salary: $172,080–$258,120 per year, plus annual bonuses and long-term incentives.

hirify.global is a Seattle-based nonprofit AI research institute developing open models, data, robotics, conservation, and other AI research and engineering initiatives.

What you will do

• Lead and develop a seven-person People Operations team across total rewards, recruiting, and HR business partnership.
• Set the annual strategy, goals, priorities, budget, and resourcing decisions for People Operations.
• Partner with research and engineering leadership to adapt People programs to technical and research-driven teams.
• Own organization-wide programs covering performance management, employee relations, engagement, organizational design, and workforce planning.
• Strengthen employment-law compliance, risk management, documentation, and HR systems in partnership with Finance and Legal.
• Oversee hiring execution, executive transitions, onboarding planning, and the use of automation and AI tools in People workflows.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree and 15+ years of progressive HR experience.
• 5+ years managing managers or senior individual contributors, with at least three direct reports.
• Deep experience in compensation and benefits, recruiting, HR business partnership, employee relations, performance management, and organizational design.
• Experience working closely with technical teams and building and documenting HR processes and systems.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, including collaboration with Legal, Finance, and executive leadership.
• Must be authorized to work in the United States; employment authorization is verified through E-Verify.

Nice to have

• Experience partnering with AI research teams or working at a research institute, nonprofit, or grant-funded organization.
• Experience applying AI tools to HR workflows.
• SHRM, SPHR, or PHR certification.
• Experience supporting organizations through leadership transitions and scaling.
