Staff Software Engineer (Kubernetes)

Location: San Francisco, hybrid

Salary: $215,000–$265,000 target base salary annually, plus equity

What you will do

• Define and drive the multi-year technical roadmap for services orchestrating Ray clusters across cloud and on-premises environments.
• Lead the architecture and optimization of high-performance control-plane components for large-scale, heterogeneous AI/ML workloads.
• Establish standards for reliability, scalability, and observability across managed infrastructure.
• Direct accelerator integration strategies for GPUs and TPUs, as well as container management for distributed workloads.
• Lead complex architecture discussions, resolve technical debt, and promote engineering excellence.
• Collaborate with ML experts, customer-facing teams, the Ray open-source community, and product engineering teams.

Requirements

• 5+ years of experience writing production code and leading complex distributed-systems projects.
• Experience designing highly available, scalable, and secure cloud-native platforms on AWS, Azure, or GCP.
• Deep expertise in Kubernetes deployments and container orchestration at massive scale.
• Advanced knowledge of the Linux kernel, networking, and low-level operating-system foundations.
• Mastery of Go and Python, with the ability to establish coding standards and best practices.
• Ability to mentor senior engineers, influence technical direction without direct authority, and navigate complex technical trade-offs.
