TL;DR
Prototype Engineer (Robotics): Building and rapidly iterating mechanical, electrical, and sensor prototypes for general-purpose robots with an accent on end-to-end electromechanical integration, rapid fabrication, and real-world reliability. Focus on translating research concepts into buildable systems, integrating sensors and control hardware, and solving failure modes involving contact forces, wear, thermal effects, and cable management.

What you will do

  • Design, fabricate, assemble, and validate mechanical, electrical, and sensor prototypes for research and engineering development.
  • Translate experimental requirements from researchers into buildable end-to-end hardware systems.
  • Create CAD designs, quick-turn PCBs, wiring harnesses, cable assemblies, fixtures, jigs, test rigs, and custom tooling.
  • Select and integrate sensors, actuators, and off-the-shelf components into robotic prototypes.
  • Collaborate with electrical and robot software engineers to integrate hardware with control systems, firmware, and runtime software.
  • Debug electromechanical systems, identify hardware failure modes in unstructured environments, and document designs, tests, and build procedures.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Mechatronics Engineering, or a related field.
  • 2–5 years of experience in prototyping, R&D engineering, or hardware development.
  • Proficiency with CAD software such as Onshape, SolidWorks, or Fusion 360, including 3D modeling and drafting.
  • Working knowledge of PCB design, electronics, soldering, wiring, schematics, and sensor integration.
  • Hands-on experience with 3D printing, laser cutting, CNC machining, sheet metal fabrication, and manual machining.
  • Familiarity with robotics, kinematics, actuation, compliant mechanisms, and basic software scripting.
