Senior Software Engineer, AI for the Planet (AI)

Location: Seattle, Washington, United States; expected to work from the Seattle offices

Base salary: $126,000–$189,000 per year, plus bonus plans and a long-term incentive plan.

hirify.global is a Seattle-based nonprofit AI research institute building foundational AI research and products for conservation, climate, data, and other high-impact applications.

What you will do

• Build and ship scalable full-stack products that integrate state-of-the-art machine learning models.
• Develop the OlmoEarth platform for satellite imagery acquisition, annotation, distributed training and inference, and visualization.
• Build multi-tenant agent orchestration infrastructure with isolated user sandboxes, persistent cloud-backed state, and secure network boundaries.
• Develop data pipelines that process Sentinel-2 imagery and deliver near-real-time vessel detections to users.
• Own products end to end, from requirements and architecture through external release and iterative improvement based on user feedback.
• Operate production systems, participate in on-call rotations, and troubleshoot issues using logs, metrics, and code.

Requirements

• 5+ years of professional software engineering experience in industry.
• Generalist experience across the stack and product lifecycle, including web applications, data pipelines, distributed systems, and modern cloud tooling.
• Experience taking software products from requirements and architecture through delivery to external users.
• Experience owning production systems, including on-call support, incident troubleshooting, and operational analysis.
• Ability to use modern AI tooling and agentic workflows, write technical plans, prioritize work, and guide stakeholders.
• Must be authorized to work in the United States; employment authorization is verified through Form I-9 and E-Verify.

Nice to have

• Experience at small or growth-stage companies with end-to-end ownership.
• Experience deploying, monitoring, scaling, and iterating machine learning models in production.
• Experience building user-facing applications that communicate AI outputs to non-technical users.
• Open-source contributions, technical writing, conference talks, or sustained side projects.
• Openness to occasional international travel to meet users.
