TL;DR
Camera Systems Software Engineer (Robotics) (Linux/C++/NVIDIA Tegra): Building and maintaining low-latency camera integration and capture pipelines for real-time robotic systems with an accent on sensor bring-up, driver development, synchronization, calibration, and hardware/software debugging. Focus on designing deterministic multi-camera data delivery, resolving timing and bandwidth issues, and exposing reliable camera APIs to perception and autonomy systems.

Location: San Mateo, California, United States

Base salary: $100,000–$300,000 USD per year

Company

hirify.global is developing general-purpose robotic intelligence that adapts to unseen scenarios through data-driven machine learning.

What you will do

  • Own the camera lifecycle from vendor requirements and sensor selection through hardware bring-up, integration, calibration, validation, and maintenance.
  • Define custom camera requirements with hardware partners, including optics, frame rates, exposure, synchronization, timestamping, calibration, thermal constraints, and image quality.
  • Develop and maintain camera drivers, sensor configurations, device-tree changes, capture-path validation, timestamp handling, metadata handling, and control interfaces.
  • Debug MIPI CSI-2, GMSL, FPD-Link, I2C, power and clock sequencing, dropped frames, bandwidth limits, corrupted images, ISP behavior, and sensor modes.
  • Design low-latency camera pipelines and reliable APIs for frames, timestamps, metadata, calibration, diagnostics, and health data used by perception, autonomy, logging, and product software.
  • Collaborate with perception, robotics, embedded systems, electrical engineering, and external hardware partners to deliver a production-ready camera stack.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of hands-on experience with embedded camera systems, sensor bring-up, camera module integration, driver debugging, and board-level validation.
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Robotics, Computer Science, or a related technical field.
  • Strong C/C++ experience for Linux or performance-sensitive systems, including multithreading, memory management, profiling, and low-latency design.
  • Experience with Linux camera drivers, device trees, V4L2, media controller graphs, and camera interfaces such as MIPI CSI-2, I2C, GMSL, or FPD-Link.
  • Understanding of timestamping, synchronization, buffering, scheduling, latency, jitter, deterministic delivery, image sensors, imaging formats, HDR, exposure and gain control, white balance, and ISP behavior.
  • Experience with debugging tools including kernel logs, tracing, profiling, oscilloscopes or logic analyzers, long-duration test scripts, and capture validation tools.

Culture & Benefits

  • Work on general-purpose robotic intelligence intended for widespread deployment.
  • Collaborate across software, robotics, embedded systems, electrical engineering, perception, and hardware partnerships.
  • Contribute to technically complex systems combining camera hardware, real-time software, calibration, synchronization, and machine learning.
