TL;DR
Director (or Senior Director) of Translational Medicine and Diagnostics (AI/ML): Building and leading translational medicine across neurology, metabolism/cardiovascular, and ophthalmology programs, spanning biologics, oligonucleotides, small molecules, biomarkers, and diagnostics with an accent on patient stratification, proof-of-mechanism evidence, and regulatory strategy. Focus on leading assets from IND/CTA through clinical proof-of-concept, applying AI/ML to drug development, and shaping translational science through cross-functional collaboration and regulatory engagement.

Location: South San Francisco, CA, United States; onsite three days per week or hybrid with approximately one week per month in the South San Francisco office. Additional travel to medical and translational science conferences and health authorities is required.

Salary: $224,000–$299,000 annual base salary for successful US-based applicants, plus eligibility for an annual performance bonus and equity incentive plan.

What you will do

  • Build and lead the translational medicine function from IND/CTA through clinical proof-of-concept across biologics, oligonucleotides, and small molecules.
  • Serve as translational lead for advanced preclinical and early clinical-stage therapeutic assets.
  • Own translational medicine strategy, GCP adherence, regulatory-authority interactions, and biospecimen CRO selection and oversight.
  • Design patient-stratification strategies using laboratory and digital biomarkers.
  • Generate proof-of-mechanism evidence to support objective and timely go/no-go decisions.
  • Collaborate with preclinical, clinical, regulatory, computational, and life sciences teams while influencing emerging AI/ML policy through publications, presentations, and stakeholder engagement.

Requirements

  • Advanced degree in life sciences, technology, chemistry, or a related discipline, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 10+ years of translational science experience in biotech and/or pharma.
  • Direct experience leading therapeutics and diagnostic biomarkers from first-in-human studies through proof-of-concept and NDA/BLA submission.
  • Experience applying AI/ML approaches to drug discovery and development.
  • Deep understanding of diagnostic and device regulations, GCP, clinical trial design and execution, clinical pharmacology, biostatistics, and computational drug development.
  • Strong cross-functional collaboration, communication, interpersonal, and leadership skills with a patient-focused approach.
