GHG Accounting Specialist (AFOLU)

The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations supports the transformation of agrifood systems and conducts independent evaluations of its strategies, programmes, and projects.

What you will do

• Provide technical guidance on selecting, applying, and interpreting GHG accounting tools across project design, mid-term, and final or ex-post evaluation phases.
• Review and validate GHG estimates for hirify.global projects, particularly GCF- and GEF-funded projects, ensuring consistency with IPCC Guidelines.
• Support the development and rollout of standardized guidance covering assumptions, emission factors, data sources, tiers, approaches, parameters, units, and comparisons between tools.
• Deliver technical training for OED staff and external evaluation consultants.
• Advise OED management on when projects should use the IPCC Inventory Software for alignment with National Greenhouse Gas Inventories, the ETF, and NDCs.

Requirements

• Advanced university degree or university degree in environmental science, climate change, natural resource management, forestry, agronomy, agricultural economics, or a closely related discipline.
• Candidates with a bachelor's degree must have two additional years of relevant professional experience.
• In-depth knowledge of the IPCC Guidelines for National Greenhouse Gas Inventories, including the 2006 Guidelines, 2013 Wetlands Supplement, and 2019 Refinement.
• Hands-on experience applying EX-ACT, IPCC Inventory Software, NEXT, and/or GLEAM to project- or country-level AFOLU datasets.
• Knowledge of land-use change, forestry, livestock, soil organic carbon, and monitoring rangeland emissions.
