TL;DR
Lead Historic Preservation Specialist (Architectural History/Environmental Compliance): Providing technical leadership and managing cultural resources projects, including architectural history, regulatory compliance, client relationships, budgets, schedules, and technical report quality control with an accent on National Register evaluations and Section 106 requirements. Focus on mentoring specialists, assessing project effects on historic resources, and solving complex environmental compliance challenges with multidisciplinary teams.

Location: Remote within the United States; Southeastern US preferred

Salary: $81,499–$138,549 annually based on full-time employment

What you will do

  • Provide technical leadership in architectural history, including developing technical approaches, delegating tasks, and performing QA/QC of reports and other deliverables.
  • Manage cultural resources and environmental compliance projects, including client communication, task orders, budgets, invoices, schedules, staffing, and subcontractors.
  • Evaluate historic resources for the National Register of Historic Places and develop resource management recommendations.
  • Assess project effects on historic resources and provide advanced regulatory and technical support for complex management challenges.
  • Collaborate with archaeologists, historians, ethnographers, landscape historians, scientists, planners, regulators, engineers, and other stakeholders.
  • Support clients from programmatic strategy and feasibility studies through implementation, operations, and maintenance.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in Architectural History or a related field.
  • 6+ years of professional experience in cultural resources management.
  • Advanced knowledge of NEPA and Section 106 regulatory requirements.
  • Experience with private and public sector clients and regulatory agencies in the Southeast.
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to pass a motor vehicle record check.
  • Leadership, mentoring, strategic thinking, interpersonal, and multidisciplinary teamwork skills.

Nice to have

  • Knowledge of the history and architectural history of the Southeastern United States.
  • Experience with historic landscapes, public history, or history.
  • Knowledge of other US regions.
