Location: Remote within the United States, with a focus on the Southeast and Mid-Atlantic; applicants in Georgia, South Carolina, Tennessee, or nearby areas are encouraged to apply.
Salary: $55,665–$114,503 annually based on full-time employment; final compensation depends on experience, skills, certifications, geographic location, education, and contract provisions.

What you will do
- Conduct archaeological surveys, testing, and data recovery, including supervising shovel testing and formal excavation units.
- Perform background research, laboratory analysis, eligibility evaluations, and technical documentation.
- Prepare environmental regulatory reviews and technical reports under NEPA, NHPA, Section 106, and applicable state requirements.
- Evaluate resources for the National Register of Historic Places, develop resource management recommendations, and assess project effects.
- Collaborate with archaeologists, historic preservation specialists, historians, engineers, scientists, planners, regulators, stakeholders, and Tribal representatives.
- Support technical approaches, budgets, schedules, deliverables, quality assurance, and mentoring of early-career staff.
Requirements
- Master’s degree in Anthropology, Archaeology, or a related field.
- At least 3 years of relevant professional experience.
- Meet the Secretary of the Interior’s Qualification Standards for Archaeology.
- Ability to conduct fieldwork in remote locations and work effectively in field environments.
- Knowledge of Southeast archaeology and NEPA, NHPA, and other state and federal environmental regulations.
- Strong technical writing, communication, organizational, analytical, and collaboration skills.
Nice to have
- Experience serving as a Field Director on archaeological field studies.
- Experience with ArcGIS and various GPS equipment.
- Specialization in historic archaeology, geoarchaeology, zooarchaeology, lithic analysis, or bioarchaeology.
- Registered Professional Archaeologist status.
- Experience supporting Tribal consultation, project budgeting, scheduling, deliverables, and QA/QC tracking.
