TL;DR
Java Backend Developer (AI Integration): Building scalable Java and Quarkus backend services and APIs with an accent on AI-assisted development, automated testing, and CI/CD optimization. Focus on integrating LLM-based workflows, diagnosing pipeline issues, and designing reliable microservices.
Location: Porto, hybrid with up to 3 remote days per week. Applicants must already have the legal right to work in the European Union.

is hiring for a client developing AI-assisted software development solutions.
What you will do
- Design, build, and maintain scalable backend services and APIs using Java and Quarkus.
- Use AI tools such as GitLab Duo and Claude Code to improve coding, testing, code reviews, and development workflows.
- Develop automated unit and integration tests for reliable backend systems.
- Troubleshoot and optimize CI/CD pipelines using AI-assisted diagnostics and root-cause analysis.
- Collaborate with backend engineers, QA, and product managers to deliver tested software.
- Maintain code quality, participate in reviews, and evaluate emerging AI development practices.
Requirements
- 4+ years of backend development experience.
- Strong Java proficiency; Quarkus experience is a plus.
- Experience building scalable APIs and microservices.
- Experience writing automated backend tests.
- Practical experience with AI-assisted development tools such as GitHub Copilot, GitLab Duo, or Claude Code.
- Communicative English and an existing legal right to work in the European Union are required.
Nice to have
- Experience with LLM integrations, Retrieval-Augmented Generation, or agent orchestration workflows.
- Familiarity with MCP or similar AI-system integration tools.
- Exposure to AI-native development practices, spec-driven development, or automation workflows.
