Wildlife Biologist On-Call Southern California

Location: Los Angeles, California, United States, with field assignments across Southern California, including Orange, Riverside, San Diego, Los Angeles, San Bernardino, and Ventura Counties.

Salary: $50,386–$151,744 annually based on full-time employment.

What you will do

• Conduct general and species-specific biological surveys and monitoring according to applicable regulations, codes, and industry standards.
• Perform construction monitoring, avian species identification, nest surveys, active nest monitoring, and buffer establishment.
• Plan and execute field assignments at remote sites, including rugged and undeveloped terrain and active construction areas.
• Document field findings in monitoring logs, technical reports, biological assessments, technical memoranda, and email communications.
• Communicate with client field contacts and senior biologists while providing field and office support to the Natural Resources team.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Ecology, or a related discipline.
• At least 2 years of environmental consulting and biological field experience.
• Valid driver’s license and successful completion of a motor vehicle records check.
• Ability to travel to field sites throughout Southern California and respond to deployment requests, sometimes by the next day.
• Ability to work at active construction sites and communicate with site operators.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Outlook, and Excel.

Nice to have

• Basic documentation and data management experience.
• Environmental compliance or biological construction monitoring experience.
• GIS software skills.
• Basic botanical knowledge of central and southern California.
• Strong avian nest monitoring, species identification, communication, organizational, and teamwork skills.
