Staff Software Engineer (Aerospace)

Location: Hybrid role requiring on-site work in San Jose, California three days per week. Salary: $240,000–$267,000 per year, plus equity and benefits.

What you will do

• Own the software, data-flow, and computation architecture for onboard high-performance computing.
• Define end-to-end requirements and designs with Electrical Engineering and Product leads.
• Translate payload, mission operations, program, and future mission needs into a forward-looking compute roadmap.
• Align FPGA, GPU, CPU, networking, timing, data flows, processing pipelines, and compute partitioning across disciplines.
• Develop a modular, configurable, network-first compute architecture that supports mission-specific spacecraft capabilities and customer-provided code.
• Document and communicate the architecture through diagrams, design documents, white papers, and technical presentations.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s or master’s degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related field, plus 7+ years of professional experience in system-level or compute-platform architecture and implementation.
• Hands-on experience with software, API design, FPGA programming, GPU programming, or low-level networking software.
• Experience architecting heterogeneous FPGA, GPU, and CPU systems, preferably in embedded, aerospace, or high-performance edge environments.
• Strong knowledge of onboard networking and data-flow architectures, including Ethernet, DMA, zero-copy, and real-time streaming pipelines.
• Experience driving architectural consensus across hardware, firmware, and software teams and communicating with technical and executive audiences.
• Ability and willingness to obtain and maintain a U.S. security clearance and meet applicable U.S. export-control access requirements.

Nice to have

• Experience with spacecraft avionics, payload compute, or space-grade FPGA/GPU platforms.
• Familiarity with Ethernet and SpaceWire standards relevant to space systems.
• Experience defining modular, mission-configurable compute platforms or product families.
• Background in safety-critical or mission-critical development processes.
• Authorship of architectural white papers or public technical publications.
