TL;DR
Multi-Functional Engineering Manager (Optics): Leading and developing engineering teams while improving optical fabrication processes, equipment performance, yield, cycle time, delivery, and cost with an accent on thin-film coatings, precision optics, and manufacturing process technology. Focus on driving continuous improvement, transferring new processes from R&D into manufacturing, solving process and equipment issues, and leading cross-functional technical teams.

Location: Onsite in Boulder, Colorado, United States

Salary: $130,000–$160,000 per year, depending on experience

hirify.global develops photonic technologies and manufactures optical components, thin-film coatings, optical sub-assemblies, and imaging and detection solutions for biomedical, semiconductor, industrial, scientific, security, defense, and aerospace applications.

What you will do

  • Recruit, develop, retain, and manage the workload of the engineering team through delegation, prioritization, and regular one-on-one sessions.
  • Set engineering project priorities and improve equipment and processes related to yield, cycle time, on-time delivery, cost, and process performance.
  • Lead continuous yield improvement initiatives, root-cause analysis, cross-functional improvement teams, and corrective actions.
  • Coordinate with manufacturing, facilities maintenance, production, quality, and other engineering leaders to troubleshoot process, equipment, and quality issues.
  • Align engineering with R&D, support ECO and NPI processes, and transfer new and improved processes into manufacturing.
  • Provide technical reviews and product costing, document procedures, support operational training, and create technical and professional growth opportunities for engineers.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, physics, or an equivalent technical field; a master’s degree is preferred.
  • 8+ years of industry experience and 3+ years of leadership experience.
  • Demonstrated success building and leading strong technical teams and influencing cross-functional stakeholders.
  • Knowledge of Six Sigma and lean manufacturing, with a history of driving measurable improvement.
  • Ability to interpret drawings and specifications for coated precision optics and assess coating designs, technical feasibility, and manufacturability.
  • Strong quantitative, communication, reporting, Microsoft Office, statistical tools, ERP, database, PLM, SQL, optical metrology, and optical assembly skills.

Nice to have

  • Six Sigma Green Belt or Black Belt certification.
  • Master’s degree in engineering, physics, business, engineering management, or a related field.
