Claims Examiner (Healthcare Professional Liability)

Location: Chicago, IL, United States. US work authorization is required; visa sponsorship is not available. Travel required as necessary, approximately 10%.

Salary: $64,400–$107,300 annual base salary, plus a 12% incentive.

What you will do

• Investigate, evaluate, negotiate, and settle primary and excess healthcare professional liability claims.
• Analyze insurance coverage, determine contractual obligations, and draft coverage correspondence for policyholders and stakeholders.
• Manage nationwide litigation against insureds, including appointing and directing defense counsel.
• Work toward economical claim resolution while managing reserves, settlement values, vendor issues, legal collections, and bill payment matters.
• Communicate significant claim developments to Claims Managers and underwriting.
• Maintain internal reporting, follow claims guidelines, and participate in division initiatives and agent meetings.

Requirements

• College degree, professional designation, and/or related job experience.
• Experience with contractual obligations, insurance coverage analysis, and investigations.
• Ability to manage litigation, set loss and expense reserves, and evaluate settlement values.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills, including the ability to explain complex claim issues and develop action plans.
• Ability to manage a high-volume caseload independently and collaborate across the claims unit and Professional Liability Division.
