Principal Software Engineer (Nonlinear FEA)

What you will do

• Research, design, and implement advanced nonlinear finite element analysis algorithms for MSC Nastran, Marc, and related products.
• Develop, validate, optimize, and improve linear and nonlinear solution capabilities, including co-simulation technologies.
• Create engineering models, benchmarks, automated tools, test cases, and regression workflows for simulation validation and performance evaluation.
• Investigate defects, numerical issues, enhancement requests, and performance concerns, supporting product quality and release readiness.
• Provide technical guidance, conduct code and architecture reviews, mentor engineers, and contribute to roadmap and technology decisions.
• Prepare technical documentation, specifications, test plans, QA procedures, benchmark materials, and training materials.

Requirements

• Principal-level experience developing and implementing finite element analysis software, user subroutines, and numerical material models.
• Strong knowledge of nonlinear mechanics, contact mechanics, numerical methods, finite element methods, and implicit and explicit nonlinear analysis.
• Strong programming skills in Fortran and C/C++, with working knowledge of Python, Linux shell scripting, and related scripting languages.
• Experience with MSC Nastran, Marc, or similar commercial finite element analysis software.
• Background in nonlinear solid mechanics, including geometric nonlinearity, contact, nonlinear materials, large deformation, and large rotation formulations.
• PhD in mechanical engineering, civil engineering, aerospace engineering, applied mechanics, computational mechanics, or a related field; strong written and verbal English communication skills.
