Senior Security Engineer (AI)

Location: Toronto, hybrid, with an expectation of working from the Toronto office three days per week.

Salary: CA$150,000–CA$190,000 annually, plus equity.

What you will do

• Lead SIEM evaluation and implementation, design telemetry ingestion and routing pipelines, and establish retention and cost strategies.
• Develop, version-control, test, and tune high-signal detections across cloud, identity, endpoint, SaaS, and application telemetry.
• Partner with Engineering and DevOps to define application and infrastructure audit-event requirements.
• Build incident-response playbooks and runbooks, coordinate security investigations, lead tabletop exercises, and drive post-incident reviews.
• Detect sensitive-data exposure, including PHI, across applications, endpoints, and SaaS platforms.
• Define requirements and escalation procedures for managed detection partners providing 24/7 coverage.

Requirements

• 5+ years of experience in security operations, detection engineering, or incident response, including building detection and response capabilities.
• Hands-on experience implementing or significantly maturing a SIEM with custom log sources and detection content.
• Strong detection engineering skills using Python, SQL, or a rules DSL, with version control and quality measurement.
• Experience leading incident investigations, writing playbooks, and conducting retrospectives.
• Experience with AWS, GCP, or Azure control-plane telemetry, identity providers, endpoint data, and SaaS audit logs.
• Strong programming or automation skills, preferably Python, and experience building integrations and response automation.

Nice to have

• Experience instrumenting applications for security visibility in partnership with software engineers.
• Experience securing or monitoring AI/LLM-powered systems.
• Experience managing MDR/MSSP providers.
• Relevant certifications such as GIAC, GCIA, GCIH, or CISSP.
