Engineer I, Biochemical Manufacturing (FPLC/HPLC)

Location: Onsite in Rockville, Maryland, USA.

Salary: $67,900–$101,000 annual base salary, with potential discretionary or non-discretionary bonus.

What you will do

• Design, test, and standardize biochemical manufacturing processes to improve product quality and yield.
• Purify protein solutions using FPLC and analyze customer samples with HPLC size-exclusion chromatography.
• Configure, troubleshoot, and maintain specialized equipment and related software.
• Prepare and review SOPs, validation documentation, and technical transfer materials.
• Collaborate with manufacturing specialists, support process implementation, and train team members on updated procedures.
• Maintain laboratory safety, preventative maintenance schedules, and reliable production operations.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Biotechnology, Chemistry, Biology, or a related field.
• At least one year of hands-on FPLC or HPLC experience is required.
• Working knowledge of biochemical principles, analytical methods, laboratory techniques, and safety precautions.
• Mechanical aptitude and the ability to troubleshoot laboratory equipment.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a demanding manufacturing environment with changing priorities.

Nice to have

• Experience with Äkta systems.
• Knowledge of cGMP and/or ISO certification requirements.
• Experience with laboratory software configuration, equipment validation, or technical transfer.
