Legal Counsel (Commercial Contracting)

Location: Munich or London; focus on Germany, Austria and Switzerland with broader European exposure.

What you will do

• Draft, negotiate, and execute commercial agreements, including master services, software, cloud, SaaS, AI-related, licensing, subcontractor, and partnership agreements.
• Lead legal support for technology-enabled and AI-driven client engagements, working with case teams, clients, Technology, Data Protection, IT Security, Compliance, and Risk Management.
• Advise on commercial, AI, and digital technology-related matters, including intellectual property, licensing, confidentiality, competition law, compliance, governance, conflicts of interest, and ownership and use of AI-generated outputs.
• Apply BCG's risk management framework and improve contracting standards, policies, processes, templates, and legal playbooks.
• Provide pragmatic commercial and transactional advice to business stakeholders across Central Europe and Europe.
• Use AI-enabled legal tools and contribute to legal innovation and knowledge sharing across the Global Legal Team.

Requirements

• German-qualified lawyer / Volljurist with First and Second Staatsexamen.
• At least 5 years of commercial contracting experience. Meaningful international exposure is required for the preferred profile; experience working in Germany as a fully qualified lawyer is preferred.
• Confidence and sound judgment in negotiation and legal advice, balancing legal risk with commercial pragmatism.
• Clear and concise communication of complex legal issues to senior business stakeholders, case teams, and non-legal colleagues.
• Ability to manage multiple commercial matters in a fast-paced environment, balance competing priorities, and exercise sound judgment under pressure.
• Ability to build trusted relationships across functions and geographies and collaborate with global legal and corporate teams.
• Curiosity and ability to adapt to new business models, emerging technologies, and legal developments, translating complexity into practical legal advice.
• Native-level or business-fluent written and spoken German and English.
