Senior Research Associate (NGS)

Location: Onsite in Brisbane, California, United States

Salary: $97,850–$126,000 annual base salary, plus potential equity, cash bonuses, and benefits.

What you will do

• Develop, optimize, and characterize NGS workflows covering DNA/RNA extraction, library preparation, target capture, and sequencing.
• Design and execute experiments, evaluate results, and improve analytical processes for high-throughput regulated environments.
• Operate and maintain automated liquid handlers, PCR instruments, sequencers, and related laboratory equipment.
• Test new reagents and establish reagent quality control methods.
• Transfer prototype assays and reagent quality methods from Research and Development to Operations, Manufacturing, Quality, and Regulatory functions.
• Document experiments in electronic lab notebooks and author work instructions, study protocols, reports, and record forms in accordance with cGLP and cGDP.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in molecular biology, biochemistry, or a related field with at least 4 years of life sciences experience, or a Master’s degree in molecular biology or a related field.
• Hands-on experience developing NGS-based assays, including extraction, library preparation, target capture, and sequencing.
• Knowledge of molecular biology, genomics, assay development, sample preparation, reagent handling, and laboratory workflows.
• Experience planning and executing experiments, interpreting results, preparing data for review, and presenting scientific findings.
• High attention to detail, accurate documentation, troubleshooting ability, and confident, precise manual pipetting skills.
• Strong collaboration, communication, organization, adaptability, and process-development skills.

Nice to have

• Experience with methylated ctDNA or cfDNA in liquid biopsy workflows.
• Experience with automated liquid handlers, laboratory information systems, sample tracking, and equipment scheduling tools.
• Familiarity with Python, R, or another scientific programming language.
